Oversees Associate leave activities to include leave of absence (LOA), workers’ compensation (WC) and return to work. Manages workers’ compensation claims.

Interfaces with medical providers, attorneys, and management staff; coordinates and monitors medical care plans; evaluates results of medical examinations and makes appropriate determinations.
Manages and provides input to Workers’ Compensation Insurance provider and third party administrators relationships and contracts.
Collaborates with workers’ compensation insurance provider, attorneys and adjustors to evaluate, investigate and resolve claims. Evaluates and approves settlement offers within monetary limit. Represents the Company in workers’ compensation related hearings with system board/arbitration to include researching leave history, absence trends, etc.
Keeps abreast of trends and innovations in the field of workers’ compensation administration and stays current on legislative and regulatory issues at the State and Federal level.
Acts as a liaison with LOA third-party Administrator Company and internal employees
Develops and maintains LOA metrics, analyzes data for trends and provides recommendations for improvement. Develops and provides reports as requested. Compiles and posts annual OSHA log and BLS data.
Assists in the on-going development and improvement of LOA policies and procedures. Ensures policies and procedures are current with applicable FMLA and USERRA laws, labor agreements, and state and federal laws surrounding LOAs.
Provides Associate leave history, absence trends, etc. to supervisors, managers, and employee relations, as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.
Bachelors degree in a related area or a combination of education and experience.
At least 5 years related leave of absence, workers’ compensation, benefits or related experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S.) in Human Resources with additional years related experience in a 1,000+ employee based company preferred.
Experience in a union environment preferred.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Makes day to day decisions used to support strategic direction. Decisions often require some thought and are somewhat structured. Decisions tend to be short term and usually moderate cost.
